Weekly Report & Reflection 12

Hello Everyone,

This course is now coming to an end, as this is my last blog post about ADED. However, don’t worry, this will not be my last blog post. I am planning to continue to blog about my weekly or monthly experiences and any new digital tools that I come across and may want to share with you all. This class has been a huge building block in expanding my digital knowledge and I am very happy I chose to take it as one of my electives. I hope my blogs have been interesting and beneficial to you all and I am glad I got to read my classmates thoughts on their digital journey. This class has enlightened me about all our digital world has to offer and brought a whole new perspective to my learning.

Looking back at when I first learned about my own digital footprint and how important it is to act as an appropriate digital citizen. As weeks progressed I really did grow, as a digital citizen leaving what I believe is a positive digital footprint behind. The knowledge that I have gained from this course will most definitely be a secure foundation for my education and social journey as I move forward. When you Google my name, you will likely find my Facebook profile and maybe some pictures that I have posted on the internet (All appropriate of course). I have learned that social media is very influential on today’s society and how important it is to follow your digital rights and responsibilities to pertain your positive footprint. For anyone who has not got to read my first few posts in this course, take my word that you have to be very carful what you put on to the internet, “ just because you deleted it does not mean that is deleted for good”.

I would now definitely consider myself a digital citizen and make sure you remember the rights and responsibilities that you have to being one. Since you guys didn’t get to see what my top 3 rights were to being a citizen I thought I would share them with you before I go. Make sure you always cite your work, always check your privacy settings as you have a right to only let people see what you want them to see, and make sure that you are respectful to others. REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE: treat others the way you want to be treated.

Thank you all for following my blog, and I will keep you updated on whats in store for my near future!

Weekly Report & Reflection 11

Hello bloggers!

(Minter, 2016)
This week’s session is the second last week of ADED 1P32! I was excited to learn more tools this week that I have not heard of before. I explored and got to use both Podcasts and Screencasts. For those of you like myself that have not learned about these tools, a post cast is typically an audio file that you can create your self via another tool called sound cloud where you can then embed the clip you created into a webpage of your choice. Where as a screencast is basically a digital recording of your computer screen and is often used along with an audio narrative. There are several tools that branch out of these two recourses and the one I chose to focus on this week was soundcould. If you go to my pages you can see the small clip that I created of my own. Soundcloud allowed me to create my own clip, stop and start it while I was recording, and also allowed me to upload and share my own audio file all in one place. All I had to do was create a log in and you automatically get to start uploading files, making your own, and even following other people to hear their podcasts. If you want to know more about how sound cloud works check out this YouTube video

Now that I found this awesome tool for creating my own podcast I wanted to look at tools that I could use to create a screencast. I decided to use “Screenr” which is a neat tool that allows you to make videos on your computer without audio narration. This website is really simple to use and a huge benefit to it is that you don’t have to download any extra things on to your computer when creating your screencast.  If you want to learn more about the website or start making your own screen cast click on this link! https://www.screenr.com/ . I could definitely fit screenr and soundcloud into my personal learning environment under “create” however, I don’t believe that I will use it much as a digital learner. Both of these tools allow me to create your own personal and unique clips however you want, wherever you want, and to your sound preference. I think this week’s session was a different learning mile and I think others should definitely explore these tools.
Before you go, I thought id also share another blog from my feedly reader that I found really interesting this week! Since Finals are fast approaching here are some study tips from Study Motivation blogger. Hope you enjoy planning for your deadlines
Thanks for reading!
Until next week!

Weekly Report & Refection #10

Hello Everyone,

During this weeks session I got to learn about a few more different tools that I could use to create a slide show. I also got to learn how to find different types of copyright pictures that are approved on the Internet. The tools I got to look at were Animoto, Fotobabble, and PhotoPeach. Each of these tools has their own unique use however the one I decided to create my slideshow on was Animoto. If you look under my “pages” you will be able to see the slide show that I created. I find that Animto was a really easy tool to use as it was very similar to prize, however there were some differences. They are both really useful when it comes to working online and creating presentations and working in a group or with a partner. Being able to create these online allows for easy assess wherever you are which is a really common feature among the tools I have got to use this term.
Chavanu, 2014
Being able to collaborate with your partner or group members over this tool is also very time sufficient because you do not have to keep contacting them via email, text message, Facebook ect. This tool is very similar in comparison to other tools I have learned about in this course such as GoogleDocs, Voice Thread, ect. These all allow student in todays society to interact online making time for us to fit into our busy university life and schedules. I would definitely fit Prezi under my PLE because there are several ways I can use this tool in the digital world and in its context. I am able (like many other programs) to work with anyone from anywhere at any time to create a presentation such as a slide show. I am also able to make use of their unique features to make my presentation more interesting and creative.

Throughout this week, I also got the opportunity to do some advanced searching on Google Images, which I have never done before, and didn’t even know it was possible.
There are several different things about copyright that any individual and especially a university student like myself needs to be aware of before using another picture or recourse. Therefore, when we searched different images on Gooogle, we then clicked the “geared logo” which is located on the top right of the page when then brings you to another page. This page is an advanced search tab which you will then discover a “usage rights tab” so you can  selete the type of tool you are looking for. If you would like to try this check out this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pJoR_pskE0&feature=youtu.be

Taylor, 2015
In my personal preference I would chose to use “free to use” as it allows you to know if you are able to duplicate the specific image. After completing this session it made me really realize how important citing is and how to use them appropriately. I found this session very enlightening as both Prezi and Animoto were amazing tools to create slideshow presentation, and citing through the advanced setting on google images was very important as we cite almost every day in university.
Also before you go I thought I would share a quick blog with that I find inspiring from my feedly reader! If you are interested in fitness feel free to check out “The Sisters Behind Base Body Babes”!

Technology Use Scenario

Scenario 2: Michelle likes to post on Twitter and Instagram. Often she will spend two or three hours each day on these social media sites. She has over 400 followers--- some are friends and family but others are just friends of friends. She posts several times a day and connects to many friends' sites as well. Michelle's mom thinks that she has about 20 followers on Twitter. What issues might this cause?

Paul, 2015
Michelle is using technology inappropriately as 2-3 hours of screen time a day just not social media sights in not acceptable. According to (Ghose, 2013) you should never accede 2 hours of screen time a day as to much screen time is leading to poor health outcomes such as obesity. Inappropriate use of having people you don't know on twitter is also really dangerous as it is putting a damper on your digital privacy. People have access to her personal life that she might not know which is invading her privacy and can put her at risk. Since Michelle has 400 followers most people would consider her to be "popular" Kaye (2010) says. He also says that the more followers you have, the more percentage of people you don't know that follow you.
What she could do in order to make her actions more appropriate is to decrease her screen time to less than 2 hours a day. Posting several times a day is also known as a "spammy person. According to (Liz, 2014) she believes you should be authentic and be you. You should not be posting irrelevant information and take up everyones newsfeed. Use it for neccessary posts only. Therefore, Michelle could post less a day which would decrease her screen time as well as making sure her account has a privacy setting so she can choose who gets to see her account.
What do you think?

Weekly Report & Reflection #9

Weekly Report & Reflection #9

Hey blogger!

This week I found my new favorite breakfast food on my feedly reader! If you have time I suggest you try it out as Avocado on toast is delicious!
Deb, 2015
Throughout this weeks session 9, we learned about a new tool and or site called Voicethread . This week was the first time that I have got to use this program, and the first time that I have ever heard about it. I found that I got the hand of using this site in only 10-15 minutes and learned a lot about what is has to offer. For those of you that have not heard or used voice thread, it is very similar to a tool that I talked about last week called Goggledocs. It is an online tool that allows for you to create a slideshow and also allows you to share files, upload, and embed things either visually or auditory.  Through this tool you are able to add text such as comments through pressing the (+ comment) button that is on the slide show it self. You are also able to comment on the presentation by using a small voice or video clip, which is really neat so people, can communicate in other ways. Being said that you are able to create presentations on the tool, you are also able to share them with other which can give you feedback from other any where at anytime. Since it is a online resource it is very realistic for university students like my self to use as you are able to access it at anytime as long as you have wifi and a computer.

Not only is this a good tool for students like ourselves, it is also really beneficial for the use of professors or teachers in the classroom. If the professor wanted, they could upload a lecture or an assignment on to Voicethread by creating a slide show. Putting an assignment on the Voicethread will allow for the students to ask questions and collaborate with others on how to complete the assignment. This is really useful for the professors so instead of getting a bunch of emails, they could collaborate on Voicethread. Also, sometimes texting (commenting) takes a long time, so having the option of using a voice clip is really beneficial for slow typers (very time efficient) like myself. Posting it online and having voice clips would allows for the student to access it at home and by
Raffery, 2011
Uploading lecture notes would also allow for the students to be able to follow along and and hear the teacher explain it at the same time if you or the teacher could not make it to class. This is a great way to experience a new type of learning and this is an awesome tool for teaching an online class. This will allows for students and professors to interact online without having to be face to face.

I think that Voicethread would fit really well into my PLE because it a strong communication and organizational tool. This tool allows for group presentation to be less stressful by not having to organize a time and place to get together as they can just collaborate online. I think that it is a really good way to organize your assignments or presentation with others, and it is really evident that it is a really easy way to communicate online!

Weekly Report & Reflection #8

Hi everyone!

This week I was able to expand my knowledge on what Wikis have to offer and how to use it more efficiently. However, I first want to share with you another topic that I found on my feedly reader. Its that time of year where college and university students are getting slammed with due dates for presentations, case studies, midterms, and assignments which gets very stressful. I believe that it is extremely important to stay on top of due dates so work doesn’t pile up as it can get really stressful. Here is a blog that I found which talks about 10 relaxation techniques to reduce stress. My favorite technique after reading this blog was to “Get Moving”. I find it really useful to go for a run to relieve built up stress as physical active releases feel-good chemicals giving your body a change to relax and deal with stress.
Amy, 2012

I have used Wiki a few times throughout my educational journey, mostly in secondary school. I have yet to use it in university, however I believe that I could find many uses for it. For those of you who do not know what wiki is, it is a website which allows you to be collaboratively edit its content and structure by its users. It is really easy to learn and edit, as you only have to press edit on the top of the page and revise any part of the text or add anything such as embedded images, audio or even videos and then click done.

As changes are made, new versions are created and they are able to develop collaborate knowledge building, which is really important. Wiki enables and promotes group collaboration, and allows other to experience the messiness of collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking by a working text. I see my self using wiki for doing just this, as I have only used wiki one or twice for a project in high school. Looking back I find it really similar to other tools I have explored throughout this course such as goggle docs as I am able to edit and collaborate with others over a website that can be contacted from anywhere you have internet and a computer. I believe blogger is similar in such a way that you are able to have a conversation by commenting on an individual’s blog. I personally prefer goggle docs so far compared to the other resources because I got to experience single handedly how easy and sufficient using goggle docs was for my previous assignment.

Bundes, 2015

What I consider to be effective ways to use wikis are collaborating for group projects, a place to put references, log goals, and overall empower learners through a democratic process which all support learning. Like I say every week, I am learning more about becoming a digital citizen and the rights and responsibilities of living in a digital society because your every move is being tracked on several websites and tools that you use online. Overall, in this session I could add this tool to my PLE in organization as well as the collaborative portion in my mapping tools.
